How to use TikTok for Marketing?

How to use TikTok for Marketing?

Just recently I made my first TikTok for my business (it will be linked at the bottom of this blog).

I had been feeling guilty for ignoring the platform, because as a digital marketer, I knew I had to at least understand the platform.

So, I downloaded the app and made my first TikTok.

For those who don’t know about TikTok, I’ll briefly describe what it is. Essentially it is a funny video sharing platform, used predominantly by young adults. Straight away, you can understand why marketers are turned off by the platform.

Anyway, I’m supposed to be answering the question “How to use TikTok for Marketing?”

I have a digital marketing agency, so it’s very unlikely that I will find my ideal customers hanging out on TikTok. But none the less, I made a TikTok video. So what was the rationale behind my TikTok video?

I made my TikTok video about “how to make a Youtube video”.

I hoped this appealed to the young adults that were interested in topics like entrepreneurship, videography and marketing.

The results were alright I think. I got 300 views in the first hour, but then the views dried up. I am currently sitting at about 320 videos after the video being live for 24 hours.

Now my rationale was, that if these viewers found this content interesting, that they may find my content on Youtube interesting. I wanted my TikTok viewers to go checkout my Youtube channel. So far, I haven’t seen a noticeable increase in my Youtube views.

So to answer the question “How to use TikTok for Marketing?” is relatively simple.

TikTok can be another piece in your content marketing system. Content marketing is essentially producing content to attract attention, which in turn will result in your organisation getting more exposure.

Now I might not spend much effort on TikTok, because my ideal customer probably doesn’t use it. But I do feel that I can create content which young adults find funny and interesting. I’m not sure how impactful these TikTok views will be for my business. But I’m willing to give it a try.

As promised here is my first TikTok video.

Cheers,
Luke Mead.
