Shopify vs Squarespace | Which is the best Ecommerce Platform?
Well well well, Shopify vs Squarespace, what is the best ecommerce platform?
Checkout the video I made to answer this question, or read the text version underneath.
I love this argument. Because it’s always a good problem to have.
Both ecommerce platforms are amazing, I can say that from personal experience. But they each definitely have their own niches.
Let me get straight into it and break down the pros and cons of each ecommerce platform.
Pricing-
Squarespace is the clear winner here, costing about half as much as Shopify. Shopify costs around $45 AUD per month. While Squarespace is around $25 AUD per month.
Design and Functionality-
This is where the biggest difference occurs between the two platforms. Squarespace offers much more design and customisation on their websites. However this is at the expense of product control. Squarespace makes it difficult when you have lots and lots of products. Shopify on the other hand has less customisation option than Squarespace. But Shopify makes it very very very easy to manage lots of products.
SEO-
Both platforms do well with SEO. I’ve never encountered any issue with either platform. However I do believe Squarespace holds a very small advantage, just because it allows for more customisation. Which translates into slightly better SEO. However, I stress, there isn’t much difference from my experience.
3rd Party Plugins-
This is another massive differentiator between the two platforms. Squarespace has around 20 plugins which can be used. Not that many really. Shopify on the other hand has thousands. This increases the value of your ecommerce platform dramatically. Having this many plugins means your Shopify website can pretty much do anything. So it’s pretty easy to declare Shopify the winner here.
So which platform should you choose?
Here is my answer.
If you’re selling less than 10 products, and need a fancy website, choose Squarespace. If you’re selling 10-10000 products, choose Shopify. I hope you guys learnt a thing or two from this video. I want to reiterate, both platforms are amazing so you can’t really go wrong.
