5 Digital Marketing Strategies for Not-For-Profit Organisations

5 Digital Marketing Strategies for Not-For-Profit Organisations

Not-For-Profit Organisations still need to sell their products and services in order to generate money to support their mission. Digital marketing offers an opportunity for Not-For-Profits to reach people who need their services.

digital marketing for not-for-profits

When marketing a not-for-profit organisation, it’s important that the marketing actually generates an income for the organisation, despite being a not-for-profit. Here are 5 digital marketing strategies that are guaranteed to help a not-for-profit organisation.

1. Produce a video that shares the organisations mission.

Not for profits generally have a mission or goal, this is because they’re not trying to generate profit. A not for profit organisation should be highlighting the goal they want to achieve as prominently as possible. Video offers an excellent way of talking about the goals of a not for profit organisation.

Video allows for manipulation of the viewers emotions. Think about how horror movies make you feel. A great video can convince your viewers to support your mission by purchasing your services/products. It’s important you don’t unethically use emotional manipulation, you don’t want to guilt trip someone into buying your services.

2. Email campaigns are your best friend.

Email marketing is still an extremely powerful tool for not-for-profit organisations. Email gives you the ability to build a strong relationship with your potential clients, before you sell them anything.

Make sure to give your potential clients every opportunity to join your emailing list.

Once you have a substantial emailing list, it’s important you begin to promote your services and products. You will want to figure out a strategy for how you take customers from their email, to purchasing your products. Once you know that strategy, then keep following it.

3. Facebook and Instagram Ads are still cheap.

Trust me, these are still the best platforms for promoting your organisations website. I recommend you start doing retargeting ads, this is where you show ads to people who have already visited your website. These ads are super cheap to run, you can spend as little as $1 per day. This is a great method for chasing up customers who forgot about your organisation.

You can also use Facebook and Instagram ads to find new customers. The advertising system is so advanced, you can choose which demographics, interests and locations to target. This means you can enter the information of your ideal customer, and target these people.

I made a seperate video about how to get started with using Facebook Ads.

4. SEO.

I can’t go a single day without talking about SEO (search engine optimisation). It is the king of digital marketing.

For those who don’t know SEO is the process of increasing the visibility of your website on Google. This is unbelievably powerful for not-for-profit organisations who need to increase their visibility. The concept behind SEO is, you want your website to appearing when people are searching for your products or services.

Google ranks your website on a number of factors, but essentially it comes down to one factor. Does your website provide value in a user friendly way? So essentially to increase your SEO, you want to prove to Google that your website is providing value to people.

5. Content Marketing.

Content marketing is a relatively new form of marketing. Essentially it’s the process of producing content (videos, blogs, podcasts etc) that attracts attention to your organisation. Think of people like Gary Vayernchuck and Richard Branson who are renowned for producing content.

Content marketing is a long term strategy, and not something you can expect to see results over night. You need to be prepared to consistently put out high quality content for 6 months in order to see any results. The benefit of content marketing is that the people consuming your content have trust in you and your organisation. This makes it easy to monetise your audience who have been consuming your content.

I recommend you start by finding what content you enjoy producing. Personally, I really enjoy blogging and making videos. So these are the mediums I focus on.
