How to Backup Wordpress Website for Free
In this tutorial, I will be showing you the best way to backup & save your Wordpress website. This is a totally free method that I recommend if you have a small website.
Unfortunately this method doesn’t work perfectly if you have a website bigger than 2GBs. However there is still a solution I will explain later.
Why Back Up your Wordpress Website?
It’s extremely important that you invest time in backing up your Wordpress website. There is a bunch of reasons you might do this.
Migrating your website
Updating your themes & plugins
Securing backups for safety
No matter what your reason, this is the best method for backing up your Wordpress website for free.
Steps to Backup your Wordpress Website
This actually isn’t an overly complicated tutorial, I think anyone can follow these instructions to backup their website.
1. Download & Activate the Duplicator Plugin
This plugin is used by almost all of developers in the Wordpress industry.
It’s extremely well documented & has plenty of paid upgrades to make your life easier. But the free version is totally useful too.
2. Create a New Package in Duplicator
This is essentially creating a backup of your Wordpress website.
What it captures is:
Your website files (the physical structure of your website)
Your database files (the memory/data on your website like login details)
This means that your Wordpress website can be deployed anywhere & it will still look the exact same & have all the data.
3. Download your Website Package Files
Duplicator will give you two files, an archive file which contains all of your website data.
Plus it will give you an installer file, this is used to install your website on a new server. Essentially it’s a code which explains how to unpackage & deploy the archive file
Make sure you save both of these files & give them a date - so you can tell when they’re from.
Backing up your Wordpress Website Summary
That’s how simple it is to backup your Wordpress website for free with the Duplicator plugin.
I love using this plugin because it’s clean & does exactly what it promises.
